Right after Christmas 2011, I went on a two day trip to Detroit. I had been to Detroit once before, but it was when I was maybe ten years old. Needless to say, I didnt remember much about downtown from my first trip. However, my second visit gave me a great idea of what present day Detroit is like. Detroit, like many cities of the midwest that were involved heavily in the auto industry or other manufacturing jobs, has suffered tough economic times. When I visited, it was a weekday around noon, yet the downtown was empty (see the pictures below with no one in sight). What remains of the downtown is some interesting architecture, GM, views of Canada, and an optimistic attitude to turn things around in Motor City, USA.
